หลัง ‘คัท’
ทุกคนเงียบงัน และแล้วเหล่าชายชาตรีจากสยามไลท์ ซึ่งเคยเห็นมาแล้วทุกอย่างในโลกนี้ (ยกเว้นผู้กำกับหญิงที่กำลังพยายามทำหนังเชคสเปียร์เป็นไทย)
ก็ปรบมือขึ้นมาดังสนั่นโดยไม่ได้นัดหมาย
วิลลี่จ๋า เธอคืออัศวินม้าขาว ในช่วงเวลาอันเหลือเชื่อนั้น เธอทำให้ความฝันของเราทุกคนเป็นจริง กล่าวว่า
มันเป็นไปได้จริงๆ ที่จะทำให้เชคสเปียร์ภาษาไทยสมจริงและเป็นธรรมชาติ เราทำ ‘แม็คเบ็ธ’ เป็นหนังไทยได้จริงๆ
หลายคนเห็นอนาคตอันแจ่มใสสำหรับชีวิตการแสดงของเธอ
“เมื่อคนได้ดู ‘เชคสเปียร์ต้องตาย’” แต่เมื่อหนังถูกแบน ห้ามฉาย
คนก็เลยไม่ได้ดู
ฉันแสนเศร้าที่เธอไม่ได้เห็นวันนั้น วิลลี่จ๋า
ไม่ว่าวันนั้นจะมาถึงเมื่อไหร่
หรือไม่
สามปีกว่าแล้วที่เรายื่นฟ้องคณะกรรมการเซ็นเซอร์ในศาลปกครอง คำตัดสินกรณี ‘Insects in the Backyard’ ปลายเดือนที่แล้ว
ที่คงคำสั่งห้ามฉาย
ตรงข้ามกับคำแนะนำของผู้พิพากษาที่รับเชิญศาลมาออกความเห็น (ว่า ‘Insects’ ไม่อนาจาร และควรยกเลิกแบน) ‘Insects’ ไม่อุทธรณ์
น่าเศร้าที่ทั้งแม่มดเอกและเมฆดับของเราไม่ได้มีชีวิตอยู่ รอเห็นวันแห่งเสรีภาพของ ‘เชคสเปียร์ต้องตาย’ หวังว่าพวกเราที่ยังเหลืออยู่จะได้เห็นวันนั้น ถึงแม้ว่าอาจผมขาวกันหมดแล้ว
และถือไม้เท้าก็ตาม
เราจะคิดถึงเธอเสมอ

Dearest ‘Doc Willie’, our Mekhdub/Macduff,
One month and 4 days after the sad loss of our First Witch,
M.R. Saisingh ‘Na Ning’ Siributr, comes the shocking news of the sudden death
of our Macduff, dearest ‘Doc Willie’, Chatdanai Musigchai.
Who would’ve believed that someone so vital would die so
young?
You were such a professional. That’s why I trusted you with
one long take of over 2 pages of Shakespearean dialogue—straight through in one
take you heard the shocking news, you grieved and wept for your massacred
family and vowed vengeance on Macbeth, on that first scary day of the
‘Shakespeare Must Die’ shoot at the end of March 2010 at Harry’s palatial
house. There was stunned silence after “Cut!” Then the hardbitten macho men of
Siamlite who had seen it all and more (except a woman director attempting
Shakespeare in Thai) broke into spontaneous, irresistible applause. You saved
the day, dear Willie. In that incredible moment you made it real: as in, it
really is possible to make Shakespeare seem real and natural in Thai; we really
are making a Thai movie from ‘Macbeth’.
Many people predicted a fulfilling career for you “once
people have seen ‘Shakespeare Must Die’. But the film was banned by the
Yingluck government as a threat to national security. How tragic that you will
never see that day, dear Willie, whenever and if ever that will come.
It’s been 3 years since we filed our case against the Film
Board in Administrative Court. Last month’s verdict to uphold the ban on
‘Insects in the Backyard’ went against the recommendations of a judge invited
to advise the court, who said the film was not obscene and the ban should be
lifted. ‘Insects’ has decided not to appeal.
How sad that neither our First Witch nor our Macduff has
lived to see Shakespeare Must Die’s day of freedom. I hope the rest of the cast
and crew will still be here, perhaps, by then, with walking sticks and white
hair.
We will always miss you.
